TRAVELING SAFELY TO HIGH RISK AREAS

The Makah Tribal Council has set a high standard of preserving all lives on the Makah Indian Reservation during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are doing everything we can to prevent the loss of even one life. Your actions are critical to helping us in this effort.

Trips off of the Makah Indian Reservation for unessential purposes are prohibited under Health Order 03-20. Even when traveling for essential reasons, there are risks. The following recommendations are designed to minimize the risks to our community:
  1. Avoid all non-essential contact with others. Give yourself plenty of space from other people. Please remember that some people don’t have any symptoms, and can spread the virus without knowing it. This is why it’s important to avoid any unnecessary contact with others, even if they don’t seem sick.
  2. Wear a mask when you’re around other people, and leave if the people around you aren’t wearing theirs.
  3. Avoid crowded spaces. This includes restaurants, casinos and stores during busy shopping times
  4. Keep your hands clean and don’t touch anything unless you have to. Keep a bottle of hand sanitizer with you, and use it after every stop. Be sure not to touch your face unless you’ve recently cleaned your hands.
  5. Make plans for your return. If you are going into a high risk situation where you might be exposed to COVID-19, make arrangements before you leave to go into Preventive Quarantine when you get home.
